Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Forestry Technician to support forest management around Mahikeng. You will assist foresters with inventory, planning, and sustainable practices, performing field surveys, data collection, and health monitoring of forests.

Ideal candidates have a Diploma/Certificate in Forestry or related field, practical field experience, and proficiency with GPS and data collection in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Certificate in Forestry or related field.
• Practical fieldwork experience.
• Familiarity with forest inventory techniques and data collection.
• Proficiency in using GPS devices and basic mapping software.
• Good physical condition and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Assist in conducting forest inventories, including tree measurements and species identification.
• Help map forest stands and collect data on timber volume and site conditions.
• Participate in reforestation and afforestation activities, including site preparation and tree planting.
• Monitor forest health, identifying and reporting signs of disease, pest infestation, or environmental damage.
• Operate and maintain forestry equipment, such as GPS devices, measuring tools, and chainsaws.
• Assist in the implementation of forest management plans, including thinning and harvesting operations.
