Job summary

Placements24 in Rustenburg is seeking a diligent Forestry Technician to assist in the management and conservation of forest resources in the North West region. You will perform fieldwork, collect data on forest health, timber volume, and wildlife habitats, and support reforestation and monitoring operations while complying with regulations.

This outdoor role requires a Diploma or Certificate in Forestry or related field, strong practical skills, and the ability to work in challenging terrain.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Certificate in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
• Prior forestry fieldwork or data collection experience.
• Proficiency with forestry measurement tools and GPS.
• Good physical condition for outdoor work in varying conditions.
• Basic understanding of forest ecology and management principles.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct forest inventories, including measuring tree height, diameter, and assessing timber quality.
• Assist in the planning and execution of reforestation and afforestation projects.
• Monitor forest pest and disease outbreaks and implement control measures as directed.
• Collect data on wildlife populations and habitat conditions within forest areas.
• Ensure compliance with forestry regulations, permits, and safety protocols.
• Operate and maintain forestry equipment, such as chainsaws, GPS devices, and vehicles.
