Job summary

Phakisa Holdings in Centurion is seeking a Food Technologist for a 6‑month contractor role to maintain GMP and Food Safety Management Systems across production plants, ensuring compliance with retailer requirements.

You will verify and file food safety records, participate in floor procedures, support external audits (Halaal, kosher, GDARD, DAFF), and drive monthly FSMS meetings. Multilingual communication and strong attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Food Technology or equivalent qualification.
• Internal Auditing Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Maintain GMP and Food Safety Management Systems in production plants.
• Verify and file food safety records, including signing and filing.
• Participate in production and implement PRPs on the floor.
• Assist in regulatory inspections and external audits.
• Compile monthly Food Safety meeting minutes.
• Support in food safety and quality investigations and feedback to Senior QAT.
• Monitor supplier quality assurance.
• Conduct monthly GMP internal audits and traceability studies.
• Ensure adherence to FSMS and testing procedures for water, products, drains and equipment.

Food Technologist

Centurion | 6 Month Contractor | Rate: R112.82

Duration: 6 Months

Purpose of the Role

Maintenance of GMP and Food safety management systems in production plants in accordance with System and retailer requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Control of Food safety records submitted by factories- Verification, signing & filing, including ordering of record forms/books.
• Participate actively in production and manage the Implementation of Procedures (PRP's) on the floor.
• Updating of records and Procedures as required and submit change request to the Snr QAT.
• Accompany regulatory inspectors (Halaal, kosher, GDARD, Hygiene, and DAFF) & participate in external audits as required.
• Compile monthly Food Safety meeting minutes.
• Assist in food safety and quality related nonconformance/customer complaints investigations and feedback to the Senior QAT.
• Monitoring the Supplier's Quality assurance.
• Conduct monthly GMP internal audits as per schedule.
• Conduct traceability studies.
• Ensure that the practices of the plants are in line with the Documented FSMS requirements.
• Ensure that all water supplies, products, drains, air, equipment's & hands are adequately tested as scheduled.
• Ensure that a universal system and product sampling procedure is in place for all raw materials and adherence to a standardized receiving procedure. Comparing COA's vs Specification.
• Ensure non-conforming material are recorded, documented, disposed of in an appropriate manner and analysed to identify and prevent recurring problems.
• Ensure that on-line cleaning and sanitation is effective and correct steps are followed when cleaning is undertaken in the plants.

Knowledge/Experience and Education

Qualifications:

• National Diploma in Food Technology or equivalent qualification
• Internal Auditing Certificate

Experience:

• Experience in the milling, extrusion, retorting, refinery and baking processes with specific reference to good manufacturing practices, HACCP and FSSC/ISO 22000.

Skills:

• Working knowledge on MSOffice - Access.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Must be multilingual (English, Sepedi, Zulu)
