Job summary

SET Consulting is seeking a senior finance professional to analyse management accounts, investigate variances, and review journals, reconciliations, and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Responsibilities include tax and VAT reviews, budgeting and forecasting, balance sheet oversight, audits support, and preparing statutory/internal reports; accruals management and stakeholder query responses are also required.

Qualifications

  • Qualified CA (SA) or BCom(Hons.) or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of finance reporting experience across multiple industries.
  • Strong Excel, financial analysis and reporting skills.
  • IFRS knowledge and experience with financial systems are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accuracy and completeness of accounting records across entities.
  • Analyse financial information to provide insights and flag anomalies.
  • Prepare monthly reports via Hyperion and meet deadlines.
  • Manage annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and expense monitoring.
  • Review consolidated management accounts and provide commentary.
  • Lead quarterly Board Packs and Risk Registers with recommendations.
  • Engage with operational departments and head office finance on financial matters.
  • Improve financial processes to ensure alignment and standardization.
  • Lead finance projects including system implementations and process improvements.
  • Approve refunds, credit notes and payments per mandates.
  • Support payroll budgeting and forecasts.
  • Review tax returns and VAT submissions for accuracy.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors to ensure audits and compliance.

Job description

Successful candidate will be responsible for analysing management accounts, investigating variances, and reviewing a wide range of financial journals, reconciliations, and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance. Duties include payment releases, tax and VAT reviews, budgeting and forecasting, fund provisions, and balance sheet oversight. The role also supports audits, prepares statutory and internal reports, manages accruals, and responds to stakeholder queries and ad hoc management requests.

Duties
  • Oversee the accuracy and completeness of accounting records across all operating entities
  • Analyse financial information to provide meaningful insights and highlight concerns or anomalies
  • Prepare and submit monthly financial reports via Hyperion, ensuring alignment with deadlines
  • Manage the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and expense monitoring
  • Review consolidated management accounts and provide detailed commentary
  • Develop and present quarterly Board Packs and Risk Registers, offering value-added recommendations
  • Engage with operational departments and head office finance teams on financial matters
  • Evaluate and improve financial processes to ensure alignment and standardization
  • Lead finance projects, including system implementations and process enhancements
  • Approve refunds, credit notes, and payments according to mandates
  • Support business and finance operations, including payroll budgeting and forecasts
  • Review tax returns and VAT submissions for accuracy and compliance
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors to ensure thorough audits and compliance
Requirements
  • CA (SA) or B Com (Hons.) or equivalent qualification
  • 10+ years of finance reporting experience, ideally across industries including financial services, manufacturing, or distribution
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel, financial analysis, and reporting
  • Solid experience in budgeting and financial management
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Leadership experience with people management capabilities
  • Knowledge of IFRS and financial systems, with Microsoft Finance and Operations experience advantageous
  • Critical thinker with entrepreneurial spirit and strong analytical skills
  • Ability to adapt and thrive under pressure in a high-performance culture
Nice to Have
  • Experience with IFRS implementation and financial system integrations
  • Past roles in the motor or insurance industries
  • Familiarity with Hyperion and other financial software systems
