Placements24 is seeking a diligent Financial Accountant for a wine estate and tourism business in Paarl, Western Cape. You will support the Financial Controller with general ledger management, IFRS reporting and variance analysis within a vibrant industry.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and 2–4 years of financial accounting experience, with IFRS knowledge and proficiency in Pastel/Sage and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Perform balance sheet reconciliations including bank, debtors and creditors.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
• Assist with accounts payable/receivable and audits.
• Help develop and implement accounting policies to improve efficiency.
• Process journal entries with proper documentation.
• Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting.

About the Role

Our client, a rapidly growing wine estate and tourism enterprise, is seeking a diligent and proactive Financial Accountant to join their finance department. This role, located in the picturesque wine region of Paarl, Western Cape , is ideal for an individual looking to expand their accounting expertise in a unique and vibrant industry. You will be responsible for supporting the Financial Controller with a range of accounting functions, including general ledger management, financial reporting, and variance analysis. Key Responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all financial transactions.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
• Perform reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including bank, debtors, and creditors.
• Support the budgeting and forecasting processes, contributing to variance analysis.
• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
• Provide support during internal and external audits.
• Help develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency.
• Process journal entries and ensure proper documentation is maintained.
• Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting projects.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• A professional qualification (e.g., CA(SA) SAIPA articles) is highly desirable.
• 2-4 years of experience in a financial accounting or general accounting role.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles (IFRS).
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Pastel, Sage) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and manage tasks independently.
• Experience in the hospitality or agricultural sector is a plus.
