Job summary

Herotel Telecoms (Pty) Ltd is seeking a Senior Field Technician in Cradock to lead advanced fibre and wireless installations, perform site surveys and mentor junior technicians in the field.

You’ll oversee repairs, diagnose complex network issues, and ensure safety, quality and customer service standards on each job site. A driver’s licence and hands-on technical expertise are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ Fibre Optic splicing experience.
  • Minimum 2 years’ RF/Wireless experience.
  • Advanced networking knowledge (advantageous).
  • Experience with fibre troubleshooting tools such as OTDR and fusion splicing equipment.
  • Proficiency in fibre termination and fusion splicing techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee advanced fibre and wireless installations, repairs and site surveys.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and conduct inspections alongside RF and Fibre teams.
  • Execute advanced fibre troubleshooting including splicing, testing and dome management.
  • Perform wireless troubleshooting including signal testing, bandwidth validation and CPE optimisation.
  • Resolve advanced network issues such as IP conflicts, firewall and routing problems.
  • Install and configure advanced VoIP systems.
  • Maintain accurate project, safety and SHER/OHS documentation.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained and stock is available for scheduled work.
  • Conduct detailed site surveys including signal confirmation, throughput testing and fibre termination validation.
  • Document findings with accurate reporting and photographic evidence.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve on-site callouts efficiently while communicating cost implications where applicable.
  • Perform fibre and wireless CPE installations including internal and external cable runs.
  • Complete firmware upgrades, quality control checks and job card documentation.
  • Work closely with Team Leaders and Schedulers to ensure seamless execution.
  • Provide excellent customer service and ensure client satisfaction before leaving site.
  • Mentor and guide junior technicians and assistants.
  • Work overtime, weekends and emergency call-outs when required.
  • Operate safely in physically demanding environments including working at heights and confined spaces

Are you a highly skilled fibre and wireless specialist who takes pride in precision, leadership and technical excellence? Join our Networks team as a Senior Field Technician in Cradock, where you’ll lead advanced installations, complex repairs and detailed site surveys across our Wireless and Fibre networks.

What you’ll need:
  • Grade 12 qualification
  • Minimum 2 years’ Fibre Optic splicing experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ RF/Wireless experience
  • Advanced networking knowledge (advantageous)

  • Strong working knowledge of hand and power tools
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Technical training in Electronics, IT, Networking, VoIP or related fields (advantageous)
  • Valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong leadership and mentoring ability
  • High attention to detail and ability to work neatly and accurately
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments and all weather conditions
  • Medically fit and comfortable working at heights
  • Self‑disciplined, motivated and well organised
