Placements24 is seeking a Field Service Technician in Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa to perform on-site maintenance, repair, and servicing of tractors, harvesters and farm equipment across the region.

The role requires strong mechanical, electrical and hydraulic diagnostic skills, a technical qualification or equivalent experience, and the ability to travel extensively. A valid driver’s license and a willingness to work flexible hours are essential.

Qualifications

• Technical qualification or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3 years' experience as a technician with agricultural/heavy machinery.
• Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic diagnostic skills.
• Ability to read service manuals and schematics.

• Reside in or relocate to Bloemfontein area.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a leading supplier of advanced agricultural machinery and equipment in Bloemfontein, Free State, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Field Service Technician. This role is essential for providing timely and expert on-site maintenance, repair, and servicing of tractors, harvesters, and other farm equipment to our valued customers across the region. You will be the primary point of contact for technical support, diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and ensuring customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, experience with agricultural or heavy machinery, and a passion for supporting the agricultural sector. This is a hands-on, field-based position requiring significant travel within Bloemfontein and surrounding farming communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic checks, troubleshooting, and repair of agricultural machinery, including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance and servicing as per manufacturer recommendations.
• Install new machinery and equipment, ensuring proper setup and initial operation.
• Respond promptly to customer service calls and effectively resolve equipment issues in the field.
• Maintain a clean and organized service vehicle, ensuring all necessary tools and parts are readily available.
• Accurately document all service activities, parts used, and time spent on work orders.
• Provide basic operational guidance and training to customers on equipment usage and maintenance.
• Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures while working on customer premises.
• Communicate effectively with customers to understand their needs and provide updates on service progress.
• Build and maintain positive customer relationships, ensuring high levels of satisfaction.
• Report any recurring equipment issues or trends to the service management team.

Requirements

• A technical qualification (e.g., N3, Agricultural Mechanisation certificate) or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a technician, preferably working with agricultural, construction, or heavy-duty machinery.
• Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic diagnostic skills.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic codes.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a field environment.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends during peak farming seasons.
