Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Optical Fibre Technician to install, splice, test, and maintain fibre networks across Port Elizabeth and the Eastern Cape. The role requires hands-on outdoor work, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to interpret technical blueprints and documentation.

Ideal candidates will be meticulous, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in varied site conditions, with a valid driver's license for travel within Port Elizabeth.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an Optical Fibre Technician or in a similar fibre optic role.
• Proficiency with fibre optic splicing equipment and testing instruments (OTDR, power meters).
• Understanding of fibre optic network components and best practices for installation and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Install and terminate optical fibre cables in various environments, including underground, aerial, and indoor.
• Perform fibre optic splicing using fusion splicers and ensure the integrity of connections.
• Conduct thorough testing of fibre optic networks using OTDRs and other relevant equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair faults in optical fibre networks to restore service quickly.
• Read and interpret network design blueprints and technical documentation.
• Adhere to strict safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area during all site operations.
