Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Fiber Optic Technician to join the Durban area team. You will install, test, and maintain fiber optic networks, ensuring high-quality connectivity for customers in the region.

This role combines on-site installations with remote support, offering a dynamic work environment. A valid driver’s license and proven experience with OTDR testing, splicing, and testing are required. Training and career advancement opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational telecom training advantageous.
• Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Technician or similar role.
• Proficiency in splicing, termination, and testing of fiber optics.
• Familiarity with OTDR and fusion splicers and other test equipment.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and splice fiber optic cables per standards.
• Perform OTDR testing and interpret results to identify faults.
• Troubleshoot and repair fiber optic network issues to minimize downtime.
• Inspect and maintain fiber optic infrastructure regularly.
• Maintain records of installations, repairs, and testing activities.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to resolve complex connectivity problems.
