The ideal candidate will lead a team of farm workers, manage resources, and ensure timely planting, cultivation, harvesting, and storage in varying weather conditions. This hands-on position requires strong agriculture know-how and leadership.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in grain farm operations.
• Experience supervising agricultural field staff.
• Certificate or diploma in Agriculture or Farm Management.
• Knowledge of grain crops in the Free State region.
• Familiarity with farm machinery operation and maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced and hands‑on Farm Supervisor to manage daily operations for their grain production farms near Bloemfontein, Free State. This role is critical for ensuring the efficient execution of farming activities, from planting and crop maintenance to harvesting and storage. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of grain crop cultivation, soil management, pest and disease control, and the operation of farm machinery. You will be responsible for leading a team of farm workers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and maintaining high standards of productivity and quality. Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of farm workers engaged in planting, cultivating, and harvesting grain crops.
• Ensure proper operation and maintenance of farm machinery and equipment.
• Monitor crop health, identify pests and diseases, and implement control measures as needed.
• Oversee irrigation and fertilization schedules based on crop requirements and weather conditions.
• Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations on the farm.
• Maintain accurate records of daily activities, crop progress, and labor.
• Assist in the implementation of farm management plans and operational procedures.
• Manage farm supplies and inventory for day-to-day operations.
• Train and guide farm workers on best practices and specific task requirements.
• Report on operational progress, challenges, and needs to the Farm Manager.
• Ensure the security and proper storage of harvested grain.

Requirements

• A certificate or diploma in Agriculture, Farm Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in farm operations, with specific experience in grain production.
• Proven experience in supervising agricultural field staff.
• Good knowledge of grain crops commonly grown in the Free State region.
• Familiarity with farm machinery operation and basic maintenance.
• Understanding of pest and disease identification and management techniques.
• Basic record-keeping and reporting skills.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license.
• Willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons in and around Bloemfontein.
