Job summary

Logicalis SA is seeking a facilities specialist to ensure smooth operation of on-site data centres, server rooms and ICT workspaces. You will work with the Facilities Manager to support HVAC systems, power redundancy, monitoring, fire detection, access control and AV systems.

Responsibilities include planning and controlling data centre facilities, coordinating with vendors, servicing new installations, and travel across Gauteng, Free State and Northwest to support regional sites.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs and controls data centre and server room facilities for the client.
• Monitor functioning of data centre and server room facilities.
• Identify and address or escalate risks.
• Plan, install and commission new data centre services as needed.
• Liaise with vendors for current/services management and new installations.
• Decommission and dispose of unused facilities as required.
• Operate as a data centre facilities generalist or across multiple disciplines.
• Travel extensively to regional sites across Gauteng, Free State & Northwest.

Job description

The role is responsible for the smooth running of the customer’s on-site Data Centre’s, Server Rooms, Boardrooms and IS Workspaces. The technician will work very closely with the Facilities Manager to support environments where infrastructure includes, but is not limited to, HVAC(Cooling), power redundancy (UPS, Inverter, Generator), Environment monitoring, fire detection, access control and audio visual. The role supports the customer though the resolution of data centre and VC incidents and outages, identification and actioning data centre risk, improvements to current data centre environments and, monitoring of data centre facilities.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plans, direct and controls data centre and server room facilities on behalf of client.
• Monitor and ensure the functioning of data centre and sever room facilities.
• Identify and action or escalated risks.
• Ensure the proper planning, installation, and commissioning of new data centre services as needed.
• Liaise with vendors for the management of current services, and the planning and installation of new services.
• Decommissioning and storage or disposal of facilities that is no longer required by the client.
• Responsibilities are in the data centre infrastructure, and facilities function as a generalist or in a combination of disciplines.
• Extensive local travel to the regional sites across Gauteng, Free State & Northwest.

PERSON REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE

• 4 - 5+ years proven track record experience in data centre facilities or infrastructure management.
• Experience in HVAC (Cooling), power redundancy (UPS, inverter, generator), environmental monitoring, fire detection, access control.
• Experience in Video conferring and audio-visual infrastructure

Experience in fast paced ICT delivery environments with competing and changing priorities.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to drive issues to resolution.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to build sound business relationships with stakeholders.
• Good written and spoken communications at all levels of business.
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
• Organised approach to work, managing own and others workload.
• Experienced at setting up meetings and keeping minutes.
• Experience in use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Experience in a mining or industrial environment.
