Job summary

The President Hotel in Cape Town is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform daily upkeep across guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, and conference facilities. You will diagnose faults, service HVAC and refrigeration systems, attend plumbing and electrical tasks, and ensure safety and quality in all work.

You will work within a busy, guest‑facing environment, applying hands‑on expertise, following health and safety procedures, and supporting the wider maintenance team

Qualifications

• Recognised Red Seal Trade Test certification is essential.
• Minimum 2–4 years’ facilities or building maintenance experience.
• Experience in hotel or commercial office environment is essential.
• Ability to read technical diagrams and equipment specifications.
• Experience with planned and preventative maintenance (PPM).
• Valid South African ID.

Responsibilities

• Carry out day-to-day facilities maintenance, repairs and fault‑finding across the property.
• Maintain guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, kitchens and conference facilities.
• Inspect and service HVAC, air‑conditioning and refrigeration systems within scope.
• Attend to plumbing faults, leaks and drainage issues.
• Perform electrical maintenance within authorised scope and fix faults.
• Complete general building maintenance on fixtures, doors and locks.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance to reduce downtime.
• Respond to urgent maintenance requests and breakdowns promptly.
• Diagnose faults, complete repairs and escalate specialist work as needed.
• Collaborate with Housekeeping, Front Office, F&B to resolve issues efficiently.
• Monitor equipment performance and identify recurring faults.

Job description

Minimum Requirements

• Recognised Red Seal Trade Test certification – essential and non-negotiable

  Relevant technical or trade background in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing or a related facilities discipline

  Minimum 2 to 4 years’ relevant facilities or building maintenance experience

  Previous hands‑on maintenance experience within a hotel or commercial office/property environment – essential

  Strong all‑round technical knowledge across HVAC, air‑conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance

  Practical experience servicing, maintaining and fault‑finding on air‑conditioning and HVAC systems

  Working knowledge of commercial refrigeration equipment, including cold rooms, chillers, freezers, refrigerators and ice machines, advantageous

  Practical plumbing experience, including piping, taps, toilets, drainage and leak repairs

  Good electrical fault‑finding and maintenance experience appropriate to your qualification and authorised scope

  Experience with general building repairs, fixtures, fittings, doors, locks and minor carpentry

  Strong fault‑finding, diagnostic and problem‑solving skills

  Experience with planned and preventative maintenance (PPM)

  Ability to read technical diagrams, manuals and equipment specifications

  Strong understanding of health and safety requirements and safe working procedures

  Experience using a CMMS such as OMNI or similar advantageous

  Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

  Ability to respond quickly to breakdowns and urgent maintenance requirements

  Professional and guest‑focused when working in occupied rooms, offices and public areas

  Ability to work shifts, weekends, public holidays and assist with emergency call‑outs when required

  Valid South African ID

  A fully updated CV with Red Seal certification, relevant qualifications and contactable reference details is essential

What You’ll Be Doing

• Carrying out day‑to‑day facilities maintenance, repairs and technical fault‑finding throughout the property

  Maintaining guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, kitchens, conference facilities and back‑of‑house operational areas

  Inspecting, servicing and repairing HVAC, air‑conditioning and refrigeration systems within your technical scope

  Attending to plumbing faults, leaks, drainage issues and associated repairs

  Carrying out electrical maintenance and fault‑finding within your authorised scope

  Completing general building maintenance and repairs to fixtures, fittings, doors, locks and equipment

  Conducting planned and preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns and equipment downtime

  Responding promptly to urgent maintenance requests and technical breakdowns

  Diagnosing faults, completing repairs and escalating specialist work when required

  Working closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, F&B and other operational departments to resolve maintenance issues efficiently

  Monitoring equipment performance and identifying recurring faults or potential maintenance concerns

  Completing job cards, maintenance records and OMNI/CMMS tasks accurately

  Following all required health, safety and environmental procedures

  Supporting the wider Maintenance team during emergencies and high‑demands operational periods
