Job summary

WSP in Africa is seeking a Façade Engineer to join the Property & Buildings Structures team in Midrand. You will design, engineer, document, and support façade systems to ensure safe, durable, energy-efficient solutions.

You will liaise between architects, engineers, and builders to translate design intent into buildable façades. The role involves wind/seismic analysis, material selection, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and contribution to complex projects with strong emphasis on

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil/structural/architectural engineering.
• Experience on commercial, industrial, or mixed-use buildings.
• Knowledge of façade materials: glass, aluminium, steel, composites.
• Understanding of building physics (thermal, moisture, acoustic).
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, and structural analysis tools.
• Knowledge of façade performance standards and wind loading codes.
• Strong coordination, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Develop façade concepts aligned with architectural intent and project requirements.
• Perform structural analysis of façade systems (wind, seismic, thermal movement).
• Evaluate façade performance (thermal, acoustic, fire, weatherproofing).
• Select materials considering durability and constructability.
• Coordinate façade design with architects, structural, and MEP engineers.
• Prepare detailed drawings, calculations, and specs.
• Support tender processes and review contractor submissions.
• Provide construction support including site inspections and issue resolution.
• Define and review façade testing requirements and mock-ups.
• Identify and mitigate risks such as water ingress and detailing defects.
