Job summary

HENSOLDT South Africa is seeking an Export Control Officer to support arms control and export-control activities, manage regulatory documentation, permits and registrations, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders for compliant import/export operations.

The role involves governance, audit readiness and ongoing regulatory oversight, with additional emphasis on training, awareness and process improvements to strengthen compliance across the organisation.

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Business Administration, Legal or Compliance, International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related discipline will be advantageous.
  • Extensive applied experience in an Export Control Officer position or a related international-trade compliance role.
  • Experience preparing, coordinating and maintaining regulatory applications, permits, certificates and supporting documentation.
  • Experience working with multiple internal and external stakeholders in a regulated environment.
  • Experience administering import and export documentation and monitoring regulatory requirements.
  • Exposure to the defence, aerospace or another highly regulated industry will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Arms Control Administration and Compliance Support: Administer and coordinate established Arms Control and export-control processes across compliance registers, committee activities, audit records and outstanding actions to maintain accurate and traceable regulatory information.
  • Regulatory Registration and Product Classification: Coordinate regulatory registration and controlled-product classification activities through the preparation, submission and tracking of applications, supporting documentation and registers.
  • Import and Export Permit Administration: Administer and monitor contracting permits, import permits, export permits and associated authorisations throughout the application lifecycle.
  • End-User Documentation and Shipment Coordination: Coordinate End User Certificates, End User Undertakings, shipment windows and permit conditions with stakeholders to align movements with Arms Control requirements.
  • Training Awareness and Compliance Reporting: Develop and deliver export-control training, regulatory awareness, compliance reporting and process-improvement activities.

Job description

The Export Control Officer provides administrative, coordination and operational support for the organisation’s Arms Control and export-control activities. The role manages regulatory documentation, permit applications, product-classification records and stakeholder coordination to support compliant import and export activities, while escalating matters requiring specialist judgement to the Arms Control Compliance Officer.

Key responsibilities:
Arms Control Administration and Compliance Support

Administer and coordinate established Arms Control and export-control processes across compliance registers, committee activities, audit records and outstanding actions to maintain accurate and traceable regulatory information, resulting in effective governance, audit readiness and informed compliance oversight.

Regulatory Registration and Product Classification

Coordinate regulatory registration and controlled-product classification activities through the preparation, submission and tracking of applications, supporting documentation and registers to maintain complete and current regulatory records, resulting in valid registrations, accurate product classifications and continued regulatory readiness.

Import and Export Permit Administration

Administer and monitor Contracting Permits, import permits, export permits and associated authorisations throughout the application lifecycle to ensure documentation, validity periods and regulatory conditions are controlled, resulting in valid authorisations that support compliant business activities.

End-User Documentation and Shipment Coordination

Coordinate End User Certificates, End User Undertakings, shipment windows and permit conditions with the Project Support Office, Shipping and Logistics and relevant stakeholders to align planned movements with Arms Control requirements, resulting in the timely and compliant movement of controlled goods.

Training Awareness and Compliance Reporting

Develop and deliver export-control training, regulatory awareness, compliance reporting and process-improvement activities within approved requirements to strengthen organisational understanding and control effectiveness, resulting in improved compliance capability and supported business operations.
