Placements24 is seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join our team in Klerksdorp, South Africa. The role involves assessing mortgage loan applications, verifying income, and ensuring compliance with lender guidelines and regulations.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Mortgage Underwriter or in a similar role.
• Thorough understanding of mortgage lending principles, underwriting guidelines, and relevant regulations (e.g., RESPA, TILA).
• Proficiency in using mortgage origination software and underwriting platforms.
• Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent decision-making abilities and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze loan applications, including credit reports, income verification, and property appraisals.
• Determine the eligibility of applicants based on lender policies, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory standards.
• Identify and assess potential risks associated with each loan, making sound judgments on approval or denial.
• Communicate effectively with loan officers, brokers, and appraisers to gather necessary documentation and clarify information.
• Ensure all underwriting decisions and processes are accurately documented and comply with relevant laws and regulations.
• Stay updated on changes in mortgage lending regulations, industry best practices, and company policies.
