Job summary

SA Steelworks requires a qualified Mechanical Fitter to join the Fitters Department in Cape Town. You will report to the Fitters Supervisor and be responsible for maintenance, inspections and repairs of plant machinery.

The role emphasizes adherence to OHSA, teamwork, and ability to work overtime as needed; overtime and standby duties are expected.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Trade Test qualification in Fitting.
• Minimum 5 years’ post trade test work experience in manufacturing.
• Knowledge of power tools used in the trade.
• Willingness to work overtime and standby duties.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on plant machinery.
• Inspect plant equipment and ensure compliance with safety procedures.
• Set up and operate hand tools, welding equipment and machinery.
• Repair, adjust and align components; inspect workmanship for quality.

Overview

SA Steelworks has a position for a qualified, committed, hardworking and motivated Mechanical Fitter in the Fitters Department at our SA Steelworks Division in Cape Town. The successful applicant will report to the Fitters Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Implementing Company maintenance procedures, including:
• Conducting inspections on all plant machinery
• Conducting routine planned and preventative maintenance
• Working through a computerised maintenance management system
• Attending to breakdowns when required
• Setup and adjustment of machinery/equipment
• General housekeeping
• Adhering to Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Fit and assemble metal parts, tools or sub-assemblies, including welding or brazing parts
• Set up and/or operate hand and machine tools and welding equipment
• Examine detailed drawings or specifications to advise with regard to job, material and equipment requirements
• Check accuracy and quality of finished parts, tools or sub-assemblies
• Provide coaching to semi-skilled staff

Machinery Responsibilities

• Industrial gearboxes, pinion boxes and flywheels

• Knowledge of typical power tools used in the trade
• Strength to handle materials, tools and machines
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Willingness to work overtime
• Perform standby and call out duties
• In good health, physically fit
• Own reliable transport
