Executive Strategic Account Manager - Priority Health Programs (Africa)

Location: South Africa or Kenya remote

Illumina is seeking an experienced Executive Strategic Account Manager who will lead through passion for genomics and global health to drive our One Health agenda across Africa.

This exciting new role focuses on advancing pandemic preparedness, pathogen surveillance, and priority infectious disease programs through next-generation sequencing (NGS). You will work closely with relevant government ministries, funding agencies, and international public health partners to advance Illumina’s global One Health agenda in Africa.

There is significant travel within the role; you will ideally be based in South Africa, Kenya, or Ethiopia, possess excellent English communication skills, French or Portuguese is a plus.

What You’ll Do:
  • Build strong partnerships with ministries, public health bodies, and global funders.
  • Represent Illumina in high-level forums and technical working groups.
  • Shape policies, mobilize resources, and support capacity-building initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, informing relevant internal stakeholders about best practices, use cases, and trends in Pathogen genomics across the continent.
  • Drive adoption of genomics for public health surveillance and One Health strategies.
  • Coordinate pandemic fund implementation with commercial teams in recipients' countries.
  • Keep regional commercial teams informed on public health emergencies in the region and interventions that might require our immediate support during national outbreaks.
  • Identify areas for coordination and collaboration with global colleagues to strengthen interactions with governments, regional public health bodies, and other strategic global health partners and donors.
What We’re Looking For:

You will be a regional public health expert with deep networks, throughout the region, a connector who bridges science, policy, and commercial strategy and comfortable working across cultures, sectors, and countries.

  • 8+ years in Sales, Business Development, or Public Health, with 5+ years in low/middle income countries.
  • Strong knowledge of health systems, donor priorities, and global health programs.
  • Familiarity with NGS and molecular technologies.
  • Excellent networking and communication skills; culturally savvy.
  • Based in South Africa or Kenya, willing to travel internationally.
  • Degree in Health Sciences; English fluency required (French/Portuguese a plus).
