Job summary

Fluor, a diversified multinational group in construction and heavy industry, seeks a General Manager - Construction & Heavy Industry for Africa with full P&L accountability. The role is based in Johannesburg with travel to project sites across multiple markets.

The candidate will lead strategic direction, drive operational excellence, and deliver strong financial performance while managing civil, mechanical, and electrical operations across the division.

Qualifications

• Senior experience in construction, civil engineering, or heavy industry.
• Time served as a General Manager or executive level.
• Proven track record of P&L ownership and delivering strong financial results.
• Experience operating across multiple African markets.
• Strong stakeholder management with governments and institutions.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership across civil works, mechanical & electrical, plant operations, and equipment management.
• Take full ownership of P&L, driving revenue growth, margin optimization, and cost control.
• Lead delivery of complex, multi-country projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget execution with high HSE standards.
• Build, develop, and retain a high-performing leadership team.
• Drive business development activities, including securing new projects, partnerships, and contracts.
• Represent the organisation at senior level with governments, development finance institutions, joint venture partners, and key clients.
