Job summary

RPO Recruitment's client in Gauteng seeks an experienced Estimator for their Johannesburg team. The role requires a Building/ Civil/QS background with 6–10 years’ estimator experience and a solid understanding of buildability, programming, and contract conditions.

The successful candidate will extract quantities from drawings/BOQ, prepare tender pricing, and coordinate with the buying and supply chain to ensure accurate submissions.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in building/construction disciplines.
• 6–10 years’ experience as an estimator in construction.
• Solid grounding in building and civil engineering practices.
• Understanding of buildability, resourcing, and programming.

Responsibilities

• Extract materials from BOQ/drawings and compile for the buying department.
• Extract subcontract packages from BOQ/drawings and compile for tender buying.
• Build up worksheet rates for direct works like concrete, formwork, brickwork and plasterwork.
• Assist with pricing and submissions ensuring adherence to specifications.

Estimator Position

RPO Recruitment's client, a highly reputable building and civil contractor in Gauteng, is currently seeking a qualified Estimator to join their dynamic team in Johannesburg as soon as possible.

Requirements:

• National Diploma in Building or BTech in Civil/Quantity Surveying/Construction Management or similar
• Between 6 and 10 years’ experience working as an Estimator in the construction industry
• A solid grounding in Building and Civil Engineering practices
• A solid understanding of buildability, resourcing required and programming
• Familiar with standard conditions of contract for building and civil engineering works such as JBCC, FIDIC, NEC3, etc.
• Aware of the importance of specifications being adhered to in the pricing and submission of tenders
• Familiar with standard methods of measurement for building and civil engineering works
• Conversant with Bills of Quantities for the construction industry
• Be able to read and understand drawings from the consultants, such as architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.
• Aware of labour and plant production figures, average waste factors, etc.
• Be aware of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality issues, in practical and costing terms
• Be aware of site conditions for working
• Be aware of dealing with the local community and any costs that this may entail
• Must be conversant with CCS “Candy” Construction Software
• Must be conversant with MS Office Suite, in particular Excel and Word
• Extract materials from BOQ / drawings and compile for the buying department in order to send out enquiries to the supply chain
• Extract subcontract packages from BOQ/drawings and compile for tender buying to send out to the supply chain
• Have a good working knowledge of building up worksheet rates for Direct Works such as Concrete, Formwork and Brickwork and Plasterwork.
