About the Role

Our client is seeking a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner with a specialization in Hygiene and Sanitation to serve the **Benoni, Gauteng** community. This hybrid role involves a combination of field inspections and administrative duties, focusing on ensuring public health through the implementation and enforcement of sanitation standards. You will conduct regular assessments of food establishments, public facilities, and other high-risk areas to identify and mitigate potential health hazards. Your expertise will be vital in educating the public and businesses on best practices for hygiene and sanitation, thereby preventing the spread of diseases and promoting a healthier living environment. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of food premises, public buildings, ablution facilities, and other public places to ensure compliance with health and sanitation regulations.
• Investigate complaints related to environmental health issues, including hygiene, sanitation, and potential health hazards.
• Educate business owners, employees, and the public on food safety, hygiene, and sanitation best practices.
• Enforce relevant legislation and bylaws, issuing notices and taking appropriate action against non-compliant establishments.
• Monitor water quality and waste management practices in designated areas.
• Develop and implement programs to improve hygiene and sanitation standards within the community.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, investigations, enforcement actions, and educational activities.
• Prepare reports for management and relevant authorities on environmental health matters.
• Collaborate with other municipal departments and external agencies to address public health challenges.
• Respond to public health emergencies and outbreaks as required.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health from a recognized institution.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Environmental Health Practitioner.
• Minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience in environmental health, with a strong focus on hygiene and sanitation.
• In-depth knowledge of South African environmental health legislation, food safety standards, and sanitation principles.
• Proven experience in conducting inspections, investigations, and enforcement.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a hybrid work environment.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office and relevant databases.
• A valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the **Benoni** and surrounding areas.
