As a Data Solutions is a lean, senior digital strategy and data analytics consultancy delivering high-stakes engagements across energy, mining, manufacturing, and telecoms.
We are seeking an experienced Trainer to lead end-user adoption of an enterprise analytics and forecasting platform operating in a regulated, high-volume commercial environment.
This is not generic software training. The platform replaces manual, spreadsheet-based processes with a governed reporting and forecasting system, and the calculation logic behind the numbers is genuinely complex. Your job is to get business users — many of whom are not technical and some of whom are sceptical of the change — to a point where they trust the platform's outputs and can use it independently. Candidates who have only delivered generic “here are the buttons” software walkthroughs are unlikely to find this role a comfortable fit.
Employment Type, Location and Working Arrangement
- Employment type: Contract, aligned to project phase, with the possibility of extension based on delivery need.
- Base: Gauteng. Hybrid, with regular attendance at client premises as delivery demands require.
- Eligibility: Applicants must hold the right to work in South Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build training material — user guides, quick reference sheets, and structured session content — tailored to distinct user groups with different roles, technical comfort, and reporting needs.
- Deliver structured training sessions (in‑person and virtual) covering platform navigation, report interpretation, and the business logic behind the figures users are seeing.
- Translate complex calculation logic — rate structures, classification‑driven results, effective‑dated changes — into plain‑language explanations that non‑technical business users can retain and apply.
- Work with functional analysts and the reporting team to ensure training content accurately reflects current platform behaviour, and update it promptly when reports or logic change.
- Run a structured needs assessment per user group ahead of each training cycle, rather than delivering a single generic session to everyone.
- Collect and act on training feedback and post‑session competency checks, escalating gaps rather than treating attendance as evidence of understanding.
- Support go‑live and hypercare periods with floor‑walking, ad hoc troubleshooting, and rapid answers to “why does this number look different” questions.
- Maintain a training register and sign‑off log suitable for client governance and audit purposes.
- Act as a first‑line feedback channel from end users back to the delivery team, distinguishing genuine usability or logic issues from training gaps.
- Contribute to change management materials — FAQs, communications, and briefing notes — supporting each release or phase rollout.
Requirements
Essential Domain Experience
This is the differentiating requirement for this role.
You must be able to demonstrate prior training delivery on a data, reporting, or analytics platform with genuine business complexity behind it, not just application training on a simple transactional system. Concretely, we are looking for hands‑on experience with several of the following:
- Training business users to interpret reports built on pricing, tariff, or rate logic that varies by customer category, time period, seasonal window, or usage band.
- Explaining classification hierarchies and their downstream reporting consequences to users who are not technical and will push back if the explanation doesn't hold up.
- Running training through a period of significant platform change — driven by a regulatory, legislative, or commercial restructure — where the numbers users saw yesterday genuinely differ from today for a defensible reason.
- Supporting go‑live and hypercare on a business‑critical reporting system, including handling users who distrust the new numbers against a legacy process.
- Building tiered training material for distinct audiences (executive, operational, technical super‑user) from the same underlying platform.
- Working within a formal training governance process — sign‑off registers, competency tracking — suitable for client or regulatory audit.
Certifications
A recognised training or facilitation qualification (e.g. TDLP, CTDP, or equivalent) is an advantage. Practical delivery experience on complex systems will be weighted above formal certification.
What We’re Looking For
- You can explain a genuinely complex calculation to a sceptical, non‑technical user and have them actually believe the number.
- You treat a confused question in a training session as a gap to close, not an interruption.
- You are comfortable being the person who owns user adoption, not just the person who ran the session.
- You write training material someone could follow without you in the room.
