Job summary

Gig Engineer is seeking a Project Manager / Engineer for its client in Gauteng. You will undertake mechanical engineering design and development, including conveyor and structural layouts, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and the translation of concepts into practical, safe, fit-for-purpose designs.

The role requires coordinating site meetings, managing contractors, steering engineering consultants, and guiding projects from conceptualisation through to completion.

Qualifications

• Eng/BSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 8–10 years’ relevant experience in materials handling and mechanical design, preferably within a mining environment.
• Proven experience in the layout and design of processing plants.
• Experience in structural and mechanical engineering design.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience using CAD design software; proficiency in SolidWorks will be advantageous.
• Experience in the selection and specification of suitable materials handling equipment.
• Experience in the design of mechanical equipment and systems used within the mining industry.
• Demonstrated project management experience will be advantageous.
• Sound knowledge and practical experience of mining applications and processes.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA will be advantageous.
• Willingness to travel to the company’s sites as required.
• Valid driver’s licence and access to own reliable vehicle.
• Must be medically fit to perform the inherent requirements of the position in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act.

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality, health and safety requirements are incorporated into designs and project execution.
• Ensure all engineering designs and project activities comply with applicable standards, specifications, legislation and organisational requirements.
