Job summary

ACC Consultancy seeks an Engineering Foreman (Diesel Mechanic) for a hard-rock underground mining operation in Barberton, Mpumalanga. The role focuses on leading the engineering team, ensuring safety, and overseeing maintenance of diesel-powered equipment.

The ideal candidate has a diesel mechanic trade certificate, 5+ years in the trade, and at least 2 years in supervision, with experience on Epiroc S1L/281/282 equipment and underground trackless mining environments.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
• Recognised trade certificate as a Diesel Mechanic.
• A minimum of five (5) years' experience as a qualified diesel mechanic.
• At least two (2) years' experience in a supervisory position.
• Previous experience in hard-rock underground trackless mining.
• Experience in the maintenance and repair of Epiroc S1L, 281 and 282 drill rigs, dump trucks and LHDs.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with legal and company safety requirements.
• Ensure quality and timely completion of statutory and workplace inspections.
• Maintain equipment availability and reliability; Ensure compliance with planned maintenance schedules.
• Reduce repeat breakdowns and equipment failures.
• Manage maintenance response and repair times.
• Maintain the quality of completed maintenance and repair work.
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of maintenance records.
• Control overtime, spares, consumables and maintenance costs.
• Manage employee performance, discipline and development.
• Maintain housekeeping standards and the condition of workshops and work areas.
• Ensure effective communication and shift handovers.
• Drive the implementation and close-out of audit and investigation findings.

Job description

Position Title: Engineering Foreman (Diesel Mechanic)

Our client, a hard-rock underground gold mining operation based in the Barberton area of Mpumalanga, is seeking to appoint an experienced Engineering Foreman to join its engineering team.

Minimum Qualifications And Experience

• Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent
• Recognised trade certificate as a Diesel Mechanic
• A minimum of five (5) years' experience as a qualified diesel mechanic
• At least two (2) years' experience in a supervisory position
• Previous experience in hard-rock underground trackless mining

• Strong leadership and supervisory ability
• Mechanical aptitude — the ability to apply the fundamentals of basic automotive repair and maintenance technology, and to recognise and respond to typical maintenance defects

• Strong prioritisation skills — the ability to rank issues, tasks and objectives according to their relative importance
