Job summary

Sygnia Limited seeks an Employee Benefits Consultant to join the Umbrella Funds team. You will manage a portfolio of retirement fund clients, delivering professional advice and service to ensure compliance and alignment with client objectives.

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Finance, Commerce, Investments, Employee Benefits, or related field.
  • RE5 qualification (completed).
  • 3–7 years' experience in employee benefits, retirement fund consulting, umbrella funds, or related environment.
  • Sound knowledge of retirement fund legislation, employee benefits products, and governance requirements.
  • Strong client relationship management and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain strong relationships with a portfolio of retirement fund and employee benefits clients.
  • Deliver proactive consulting and support to clients, ensuring arrangements remain appropriate and compliant.
  • Coordinate and facilitate MANCO meetings, including agendas, packs, minutes, and actions.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and communicate impact to clients.
  • Assist clients with implementation of benefit structures and governance requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client servicing through data-driven solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, insurers, and service providers for seamless delivery.
  • Support client retention through excellent service and technical expertise.
  • Contribute to departmental growth and profitability objectives.
  • Provide guidance to colleagues and participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Contribute to internal projects and governance initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and governance standards.

Job description

Role Purpose:

We are seeking an Employee Benefits Consultant to join our Umbrella Funds team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and supporting a portfolio of retirement fund clients by providing professional advice, delivering exceptional service, and ensuring that clients' employee benefit arrangements remain effective, compliant, and aligned with their objectives. The role requires strong relationship management skills, technical knowledge of employee benefits and retirement fund legislation, and a proactive approach to client servicing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain strong relationships with a portfolio of retirement fund and employee benefits clients.
  • Deliver proactive consulting and support to clients, ensuring their employee benefit arrangements remain appropriate and compliant.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Management Committee (MANCO) meetings, including preparing agendas, compiling meeting packs, taking minutes, and following up on agreed actions.
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and industry developments and communicate the impact of these changes to clients.
  • Assist clients with the implementation of benefit structures, amendments, and governance requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client servicing efficiencies through effective processes and data-driven solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, insurers, administrators, and other service providers to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Support client retention through excellent service, technical expertise, and responsiveness to client needs.
  • Contribute to achieving departmental growth and profitability objectives.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues where appropriate and participate in team knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Contribute to internal projects, committees, and thought leadership activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, internal policies, and governance standards.
Minimum Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Finance, Commerce, Investments, Employee Benefits, or a related field.
  • RE5 qualification (completed).
  • 3 to 7 years' experience in employee benefits, retirement fund consulting, umbrella funds, or a related environment.
  • Sound knowledge of retirement fund legislation, employee benefits products, and governance requirements.
  • Strong client relationship management and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
  • Progress towards or completion of a recognised industry qualification such as APFI, CFP®, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with umbrella funds and retirement fund governance structures.
  • Knowledge of the Pension Funds Act, Income Tax Act, FAIS, FICA and other applicable retirement fund legislation.
