Qualifications

• Trade qualification as a Mechanic or equivalent (Diesel/Plant/Earthmoving).
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with heavy mobile plant.
• Proven ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Knowledge of diesel engines, powertrains and braking systems in mining equipment.
• Ability to read complex diagrams and service manuals.
• Strong problem-solving and safety-focused workmanship.
• Willingness to work shifts and standby for emergencies.
• Ability to work remotely or in challenging Upington conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics and troubleshoot heavy mining plant equipment.
• Carry out preventative maintenance and servicing per specifications.
• Repair and overhaul mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Interpret manuals, schematics and diagnostic data.
• Maintain safety protocols and accurate service logs.
• Respond to breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Communicate equipment status with supervisors and operators.
• Assist with spare parts inventory and tools management.
• Stay updated on new mining tech and best practices.
• Support in ensuring fleet reliability and safety.
