Placements24 is seeking a Gourmet Event Chef in South Africa to design creative menus and lead kitchen operations for diverse events in Gauteng. This role demands a culinary leader who can balance creativity with cost controls, safety and high service standards.

You will manage a kitchen brigade, collaborate with event management, and continuously elevate menu quality while ensuring timely, impeccable presentation for intimate gatherings to large-scale celebrations.

Qualifications

• Formal culinary qualification from a recognized institution or equivalent apprenticeship.
• Minimum 5 years as a Chef, with at least 2 years in high-volume catering or events.
• Proven expertise across diverse culinary styles and techniques.
• Strong leadership and ability to motivate kitchen staff.
• Excellent food safety, sanitation, and hygiene knowledge.
• Proficiency in menu costing, inventory management and budgeting.

Responsibilities

• Design innovative, appealing menus for various events, considering client preferences, dietary needs, seasonality and budgets.
• Lead all food preparation, cooking and presentation during events to ensure consistency and quality.
• Train and manage a kitchen team, fostering collaboration and efficiency.
• Maintain strict food safety/hygiene standards (HACCP) and regulatory compliance.
• Manage kitchen inventory, ordering, receiving, storage and waste reduction.
• Collaborate with catering management to ensure smooth event execution and client satisfaction.
• Develop standardized recipes and procedures for consistency across events.
• Monitor equipment and ensure safe operation and maintenance.
• Stay updated on culinary trends and ingredient innovations.
• Conduct taste tests and quality checks to uphold high standards.
