Job summary

CubeSpace ADCS in Stellenbosch, South Africa, seeks a multidisciplinary Electronic Engineer to own end-to-end electronic hardware, PCB design and embedded systems for satellite and ground segments.

You will drive concept through verification, qualification and delivery, collaborating with Electrical, Systems, Software, Mechanical and Project teams to ensure successful product delivery and compliance with aerospace-grade standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum B.Eng in Electronic Engineering (M.Eng advantageous).
• 3–6 years in embedded systems and electronic product design.
• Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout (Altium), embedded C, and test jigs.
• Knowledge of power systems design and various bus interfaces (CAN/CAN-FD, UART, SPI, I²C, LVDS, RS-485/RS-422, USB).
• Strong systems engineering understanding and documentation skills.

Job description

CubeSpace is looking for a multidisciplinary Electronic Engineer to take full technical ownership of one or more products across our satellite systems and technologies. The role is responsible for the end-to-end design, development and integration of electronic hardware, PCB design and embedded systems across our Space and Ground Segments, including low-level firmware and microcontroller technologies.

Acting as the design authority, you will drive product development from initial concept and requirements definition through to verification, qualification and delivery. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in electronics and embedded systems, thrives in a multidisciplinary environment and takes ownership of delivering innovative, reliable products to the highest standards of quality and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform electronic hardware design and initial embedded firmware development, maintaining an intimate understanding of the product's low-level behaviour and architecture.
• Drive the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through PDR, CDR, QR, and delivery of a complete, compliant product data pack.
• Collaborate closely with Electronic, Systems Engineering, Software, Mechanical, Project Management, and Environmental Qualification teams to ensure successful product delivery.
• Support and participate in qualification and environmental testing, validating outputs against project and customer requirements.
• Develop, maintain, and control product documentation, including ICDs, user manuals, and supporting technical artefacts.
• Provide technical support to Client Support, assisting with customer queries when required.Support Production and Test teams through training, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis of technical issues.
• Research, evaluate, and apply new technologies where beneficial to product performance, reliability, or manufacturability.
• Uphold aerospace-grade standards where precision, traceability, and quality are critical at all times.

Minimum Requirements:

• B.Eng in Electronic Engineering or related degree (M.Eng advantageous).
• 3-6 years' experience in embedded systems and electronic product design.
• Proven expertise in schematic capture, PCB layout (Altium), embedded C (C# advantageous), and test jigs and scripting.
• Strong knowledge of power system design.
• Experience with microprocessors, DSPs, embedded operating systems, and IDEs.
• Working knowledge of CAN/CAN-FD, UART, SPI, I²C, GPIO, LVDS, RS-485, RS-422, FlexRay, and USB.
• Sound grasp of systems engineering, system architecture, and requirements management.
• Excellent communication and technical writing skills, with strong attention to detail.
