Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Engineer for a leading industrial manufacturer in Sandton, Gauteng. This on-site role focuses on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems to minimize downtime.

You will read schematics, work with AC/DC motors, VFDs and PLCs, and ensure safety compliance. A National Diploma or Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and 6+ years’ experience are required; willingness to work shifts/on-call.

About the Role

Our client, a leading manufacturer in the industrial sector, requires a dedicated Electrical Maintenance Engineer to ensure the optimal functioning and reliability of electrical systems within their plant operations in Sandton, Gauteng . This hands-on role is critical for minimizing downtime and ensuring the safety and efficiency of production processes. You will be responsible for the proactive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of electrical equipment. This is an essential on-site position requiring a practical approach and a deep understanding of industrial electrical systems. We are looking for a results-oriented engineer who can effectively diagnose and resolve electrical issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment located in the bustling Sandton, Gauteng area. Your commitment to preventative maintenance will be key to our operational success.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine preventive maintenance and inspections on all plant electrical equipment, including motors, control panels, switchgear, and lighting systems. Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults and failures, implementing timely and effective repairs. Install, test, and commission new electrical equipment and systems. Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to understand system layouts and component functions. Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment status, and spare parts inventory. Collaborate with production teams to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption to operations. Identify opportunities for improving equipment reliability and reducing energy consumption. Participate in safety training and promote a strong safety culture within the maintenance team.

Requirements

National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant trade qualification (e.g., Electrician with extensive experience). Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical maintenance within an industrial or manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including AC/DC motors, VFDs, PLCs, and control systems. Proficiency in reading electrical schematics and troubleshooting electrical circuits. Experience with high-voltage equipment is advantageous. Understanding of safety procedures and lockout/tagout protocols. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently. Willingness to work shifts or be on call as required.
