Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer focused on Instrumentation for industrial projects in Mahikeng, North West. You will design and specify instrumentation and control systems, develop electrical schematics, and ensure compliance with IEC/ISA standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 4 years' experience in electrical and instrumentation design for industrial projects.

• Proficient in AutoCAD or EPLAN and instrumentation design tools.
• Understanding of PLC/DCS integration with instrumentation.
• Familiar with electrical/instrumentation codes and standards.
• Excellent analytical and detail-oriented skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Willingness to travel to project sites around Mahikeng, North West.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical control panels and systems including MCCs and wiring.
• Specify instrumentation: sensors, transmitters, control valves, and analytical instruments.
• Develop electrical schematics, loop diagrams, wiring schedules, and panel layouts using CAD.
• Ensure designs comply with IEC, ISA and project specifications.
• Collaborate with process engineers, mechanical engineers and PMs to define system requirements.
• Prepare BOMs and assist procurement.
• Participate in HAZOP and risk assessments for electrical/instrumentation design.
• Provide technical support during installation, commissioning and testing.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation and control systems in plant environments.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent engineering firm specializing in process control and industrial automation, is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer with a focus on Instrumentation for their Mahikeng, North West office. This role is critical in designing, specifying, and implementing instrumentation and control systems for a variety of industrial projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of process instrumentation, control valves, transmitters, and associated electrical design requirements. We are looking for a meticulous and technically proficient engineer who can translate process requirements into robust electrical and instrumentation designs. Key Responsibilities

• Designing electrical control panels and systems, including power distribution, motor control centers (MCCs), and wiring.
• Specifying instrumentation, including sensors, transmitters, control valves, and analytical instruments for process control.
• Developing electrical schematics, loop diagrams, wiring schedules, and panel layouts using CAD software.
• Ensuring designs comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., IEC, ISA) and project specifications.

• Preparing Bills of Materials (BOMs) and assisting with procurement activities.

Requirements

• Proficiency in electrical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN) and familiarity with instrumentation design tools.
• Understanding of PLC/DCS systems and their integration with instrumentation.
