Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Drilling Fluids Engineer to support operations around Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha). The role focuses on designing, managing, and optimizing drilling fluid systems to meet objectives while protecting the wellbore.

You will test fluids, analyze results, and adjust formulas for performance and safety. The position requires hands-on field work, knowledge of rheology and fluid chemistry, and the ability to work in remote locations with drilling crews.

Qualifications

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated Drilling Fluids Engineer to support their operations in and around Port Elizabeth . This role is essential for designing, managing, and optimizing drilling fluid systems to ensure efficient and safe drilling operations. You will be responsible for fluid testing, analysis, and recommending adjustments to meet drilling objectives while controlling formation pressures and protecting the wellbore. This position requires a hands-on approach and a deep understanding of fluid chemistry and rheology within the challenging environment of the Oil & Gas industry .

Key Responsibilities

• Design and manage drilling fluid programs based on geological conditions and drilling objectives.


• Oversee the mixing, testing, and analysis of drilling fluids on-site.


• Troubleshoot drilling fluid-related problems and implement corrective actions.


• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations regarding fluid disposal and handling.


• Monitor fluid performance and costs, identifying areas for optimization.


• Maintain accurate records of fluid properties, volumes, and treatments.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related science field.


• 3+ years of experience as a Drilling Fluids Engineer or in a related mud engineering role.


• Knowledge of drilling fluid chemistry, rheology, and additives.


• Familiarity with solids control equipment and techniques.


• Ability to work effectively in remote field locations and communicate clearly with drilling crews.
