Placements24 is seeking a Downstream Energy Operations Manager to oversee refineries, terminals and depots around Mossel Bay. You will lead safety-focused teams, optimize processes, manage budgets and drive continuous improvement across the region.

The role requires 8+ years in downstream operations, a chemical/mechanical engineering background and strong financial acumen. MBA is a plus; regional travel and site oversight are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
• MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
• 8+ years of progressive operations management experience in downstream oil & gas.
• Experience managing complex facilities (refineries or large storage terminals).
• Strong understanding of refining processes, product specs, and quality control.
• Proven leadership of diverse operational teams and HSE compliance.
• Willingness to be based near Mossel Bay; regional travel/on-site oversight.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of downstream facilities (refineries, terminals, depots).
• Develop strategies to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies.
• Lead and mentor operational teams, fostering safety and performance culture.
• Manage budgets, P&L, and capital expenditure plans for the region.
• Monitor KPIs and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Oversee maintenance, reliability programs, and asset management.
• Coordinate with commercial, engineering, and supply chain teams for seamless ops.
• Lead incident investigations and implement preventive measures.
