Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum of 7 years in aquatics and recreation facilities, with 3+ years in a senior leadership role.
• Knowledge of aquatic operations, safety protocols, and pool management.
• Experience in program development, budgeting, and staff supervision.
• Strong marketing, PR and customer service understanding.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills.
• Desirable: CPO certification or equivalent.

Responsabilités

About the Role

Our client, a leading community and recreational facility in Centurion, Gauteng, is seeking a visionary and experienced Director of Aquatics and Recreation. This senior leadership position is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and overall management of all aquatic programs, facilities, and recreational services. The Director will ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and engaging experiences for members and the wider community. This role requires strong financial acumen, exceptional operational oversight, and a passion for promoting health, wellness, and community engagement through diverse recreational offerings. You will lead a team of dedicated professionals and be accountable for driving innovation and operational excellence within the aquatics and recreation departments in Centurion.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic plans for aquatics and recreation programs, facilities, and services.
• Oversee the daily operations of all aquatic facilities, including pools, splash pads, and related amenities, ensuring a safe and clean environment.
• Manage and develop a diverse range of recreational programs, including swimming lessons, fitness classes, youth camps, and community events.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of aquatics and recreation staff, including lifeguards, instructors, and program coordinators.
• Develop and manage the departmental budget, including revenue generation, expense control, and capital expenditure planning.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and industry regulations, including aquatic safety standards and certifications.
• Lead marketing and promotional efforts to increase program participation and facility usage.
• Foster partnerships with local schools, community groups, and other organizations.
• Manage facility maintenance, repairs, and capital improvement projects for aquatics and recreation areas.
• Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices to continuously enhance service delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in managing aquatics and recreation facilities and programs, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
• Extensive knowledge of aquatic operations, safety protocols (e.g., Lifesaving South Africa certifications), and pool management.
• Proven experience in program development, budget management, and staff supervision.
• Strong understanding of marketing, public relations, and customer service principles.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Certification in Pool Operations (CPO) or equivalent is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex operations and drive strategic initiatives.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with recreation management software.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by the operational needs of Centurion, Gauteng.
