Job summary

Implats is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to provide engineering technical service to a section at a Business area. The role involves repairing, servicing and maintaining diesel-hydraulics and electro-hydraulics, vehicles and machinery to ensure optimal equipment utilization.

The candidate must have a Grade 12 or NQF 4, a Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate, and at least 3 years of mining experience. The job emphasizes safety, compliance with mine standards, and proactive maintenance planning.

Qualifications

• Diesel Mechanic certification and related technical qualifications.
• 3 years of Diesel Mechanic experience in mining environments.

Responsibilities

• Performs administration and Artisan maintenance administration functions according to role requirements.
• Compiles and completes accurate reports including safety, injury, hazard, risk and accident reports, shift and work order reports and ad hoc reports
• Completes planned maintenance schedules for stock items required
• Reports defects and abnormalities to appropriate supervisor or manager
• Co-coordinate multi-task team members to complete assigned work tasks or orders
• Implements maintenance schedules and executes the approved plan in accordance with policies, procedures and processes to ensure achievement of production targets

Job description

To provide an engineering technical service to a section at a Business area. The role of a Diesel Mechanic is to repair service and maintain all diesel-hydraulics and electro-hydraulics, vehicles and machinery so that optimal utilization of the equipment can be achieved.

COMPETENCIES:

• Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
• Participates in regular safety meetings and makes recommendations to ensure overall safety.
• Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
• Builds, supports and maintains healthy diverse internal and external relations and implement remedial actions where required.
• Provides relevant support to stakeholders to ensure team objectives are achieved.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Performs administration and Artisan maintenance administration functions according to role requirements.
• Complies work priority list and determine resource requirements
• Communicates resource requirements
• Compiles and completes accurate reports including safety, injury, hazard, risk and accident reports, shift and work order reports and ad hoc reports
• Completes and approves allocated work orders
• Completes planned maintenance schedules for stock items required
• Reports defects and abnormalities to appropriate supervisor or manager
• Ensures clear teamwork expectations and plans
• Provides input to the planning process within the are of control and execute the approved plan in accordance with policies, procedures and processes to ensure achievement of production targets
• Performs equipment maintenance services according to the required standards and specifications
• Implements maintenance schedules
• Utilise appropriate tools to complete tasks
• Makes materials and equipment available to the shift requirements
• Co-coordinate multi-task team members to complete assigned work tasks or orders
• Approves inspection orders
• Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent.
• Certified competent as a Diesel Mechanic (Trade Certificate)
• 3 Years Diesel Mechanic experience in a mining environment.
