Job summary

UN Women South Africa invites applications for the Deputy Country Representative role in Pretoria. The incumbent will lead programme teams, guide strategic direction, and ensure delivery of gender equality initiatives under UN Women’s SDG framework.

You will manage partnerships, mobilize resources, and supervise staff, reporting to the Country Representative. Fluency in English and 7+ years in development leadership are required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in international development, public administration, public policy or other relevant social science fields is required.
• At least 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience with a focus on gender equality and women’s empowerment at the international level is required.
• Field-based experience with multi-cultural teams is required.
• Experience leading and coaching staff in international settings is required.
• Fluency in English is required; knowledge of another official UN language desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day work of the programme teams and finalize the annual workplan.
• Provide strategic guidance to the Country Representative on key areas and ensure compliant programme monitoring and reporting.
• Represent UN Women in UNCT and coordinate with partners, donors, and interagency groups.
• Develop and implement the country resource mobilization strategy and sustain partner relations.
• Supervise personnel, foster an enabling work environment, and drive performance management.
• Lead advocacy, knowledge management, and capacity-building initiatives across the country office.
