Job summary

Phakisa Holdings is seeking a Van Assistant in Gauteng (Central JHB) on a contractor basis to support the driver with deliveries and collections, load/unload stock, and ensure accurate documentation. The role emphasizes safety, customer service, and teamwork, with responsibility for warehouse duties when not on deliveries and compliance with company procedures.

Reporting to Operations, the successful candidate will demonstrate reliability, physical fitness, and flexible hours to meet scheduling

Qualifications

• Previous experience in logistics, warehousing, deliveries, or distribution is advantageous.
• Good physical health and ability to lift and move goods.
• Ability to work flexible hours and meet delivery deadlines.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills.
• Ability to read and understand delivery documentation.
• Reliable, punctual and responsible.
• Team collaboration and following safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist the driver with daily deliveries and collections according to route and schedule.
• Load and offload goods safely and efficiently.
• Check goods against delivery notes, invoices, or picking slips.
• Ensure products are handled carefully to prevent damage.
• Assist with securing goods inside the vehicle.
• Navigate delivery locations and follow planned delivery route.
• Obtain customer signatures or proof of delivery where required.
• Report damages or missing goods immediately.
• Assist with returns, exchanges, and collection of goods where required.
• Maintain cleanliness and general housekeeping of the delivery vehicle.
• Follow all company health and safety procedures.
• Assist with basic vehicle checks and report any defects.
• Maintain professional communication with customers.
• Assist with warehouse duties when not on deliveries (picking, packing, sorting, loading stock).
• Comply with company policies, transport regulations and security procedures.
• Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by management.
