About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Data Scientist specializing in Energy Analytics to join their expanding, fully remote team. This role is crucial for leveraging big data to drive insights and decision-making across their Oil & Gas operations. You will develop predictive models, perform advanced statistical analysis, and create data visualizations to uncover trends and opportunities in production, exploration, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is passionate about applying cutting-edge data science techniques to solve complex challenges in the energy sector, working from anywhere in South Africa and contributing to strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement machine learning models for production forecasting, anomaly detection, and predictive maintenance.
- Analyze large datasets from exploration, production, and operational activities to identify key trends and insights.
- Design and build dashboards and reports to communicate findings to stakeholders across various departments.
- Collaborate with domain experts to understand business problems and translate them into data science solutions.
- Clean, process, and transform raw data into usable formats for analysis.
- Stay current with advancements in data science, machine learning, and their applications in the energy industry.
- Contribute to the development of data governance and best practices within the organization.
Requirements
- Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- Proven experience as a Data Scientist, with a strong portfolio of data analysis and modeling projects.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and relevant libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Pandas).
- Experience with SQL and working with large databases.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies is a plus.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex findings to non-technical audiences.
- Experience in the Oil & Gas industry or related energy sectors is highly desirable.
