Job summary

iqbusiness is seeking a Data Quality and Governance Team Lead on a 12-month contract to collaborate with an international partner from our Welgemoed, Cape Town offices. This hybrid role combines on-site and remote work.

You will guard master data across platforms, lead daily data entry and quality operations, and embed metadata management and stewardship practices while coordinating with Finance, Programme Management, and technical teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years hands-on experience in data entry, data quality, data operations, or administrative operations
• Minimum 2 years in a team lead or supervisory capacity
• Comfortable working with Excel and basic data validation techniques
• Practical experience with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred): data governance concepts, data stewardship, or metadata management

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee daily activities of the Data Entry and Data Quality Operators.
• Assign, prioritise, and track team tasks, ensuring deadlines, SLAs, and quality standards are met.
• Act as the escalation point for complex data quality issues and cross-system inconsistencies.
• Coach, train, and support team members on data quality standards, tools, and best practices.
• Monitor team performance, quality trends, improvement actions and provide ongoing feedback and development support.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, responsible, and quality-driven team culture.
• Implement and support data governance policies related to master data.
• Act as a Data Steward for assigned data domains, ensuring clear ownership and accountability.
• Contribute to defining and maintaining data quality rules, thresholds, and controls.
• Actively monitor recurring data quality issues and coordinate root-cause resolution with business and technical teams.
• Support data privacy, compliance, and ethical data usage practices in line with institutional policies.
• Contribute to the maintenance and adoption of the Data Catalogue, ensuring core data objects, fields, and KPIs are documented.
• Collaborate with Data Owners, Analysts, and Engineers to keep metadata accurate and up to date.
• Promote data literacy by helping business users understand data definitions, lineage, and quality indicators via the catalogue.
• Identify gaps in documentation and propose continuous improvements to metadata coverage.
• Ensure accurate and timely data entry and updates in Salesforce and other enterprise systems.
• Perform and oversee data checks, error correction, and structured data cleaning activities.
• Partner with technical teams to improve automation and validation rules and reduce manual effort.

This is a hybrid role (3 days on-site; 2 days WFH). As the guardian of IMD’s core business information, you will ensure that Contact, Account, and Application data remain accurate, consistent, and well-governed across all platforms. You will lead daily data entry and quality operations, seamlessly embedding metadata management and stewardship practices into every process. By acting as the vital link between Finance, Programme Management, and technical teams, you will champion transparency and build unwavering trust in our data. This role demands a balance of operational oversight and strategic collaboration to continuously optimise data integrity.

Data Quality & Operations Leadership

• Perform and oversee data checks, error correction, and structured data cleaning activities.
• Partner with technical teams to:
  • Improve automation and validation rules
  • Reduce manual effort in data entry and correction
  • Improve data flows and integrations
• Proactively suggest process enhancements to improve efficiency, consistency, and data reliability.

Minimum Requirements

• Tertiary Qualification in Information Management, Office Administration, Business Administration, Quality Management or equivalent
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in data entry, data quality, data operations, or administrative operations
• Minimum 2 years in a team lead or supervisory capacity
• Comfortable working with Excel and basic data validation techniques
• Practical experience with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred): data governance concepts, data stewardship, or metadata management
