Job summary

Placements24 is building a fully remote AI platform engineering team in South Africa. We seek an AI Platform Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable infrastructure for AI/ML initiatives, enabling data scientists and engineers to develop, train, and deploy models efficiently.

The role focuses on cloud infrastructure, automation, and collaboration with a distributed team. You will contribute to robust platforms and best practices across the ML lifecycle in a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Proven experience building and managing cloud infrastructure, preferably on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Strong background in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering with ML/AI systems focus.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) and IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible).
• Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Understanding of ML concepts and MLOps principles.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong remote communication and collaboration, proactive and self-directed.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage scalable cloud-based infrastructure for AI/ML workloads.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for AI/ML services and model deployments.
• Implement MLOps to automate the ML lifecycle.
• Build tools for data management, feature stores, and model experimentation.
• Ensure security, reliability, and performance of the AI platform.
• Collaborate remotely with data scientists, ML engineers, and software developers.
• Automate provisioning and management using IaC tools.
• Monitor platform performance and optimize operations.
• Contribute to knowledge base and documentation.
