Qualifications

• Extensive experience leading data engineering, BI, and data warehousing.
• Advanced SQL skills and hands-on with modern data platforms (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Azure).
• Experience building and managing ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Strong understanding of data architecture principles and best practices.
• Knowledge of cloud cost management and optimisation.
• Proven leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee data & reporting management across the organisation to ensure accuracy and usability.
• Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines across on-premise and cloud environments.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to the data team in coordination with the CIO.
• Define and maintain the organisation's data architecture and strategy (lakehouse, warehouse, hybrid).
• Monitor and optimise cloud compute and storage costs while ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Establish and enforce data governance frameworks, standards, and policies to ensure data quality and security.
• Support database administration tasks for stability of on-premise and cloud databases.

Purpose of the Role

The Data Engineering & Analytics lead is responsible for overseeing the organisation's data strategy, engineering function, and reporting capability. This role ensures the delivery of reliable, scalable, and cost-effective data solutions that support business decision-making and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Data & Reporting Management

• Manage and oversee all core business reporting across the organisation
• Maintain, enhance, and take ownership of existing reporting solutions
• Continuously optimise and improve reporting performance, usability, and accuracy
• Drive standardisation of reporting metrics and definitions across the business

Data Engineering & Pipelines

• Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines across both on-premise and cloud environments
• Ensure efficient data ingestion, transformation, and delivery across multiple data sources
• Implement best practices for scalability, performance, and reliability of data pipelines

Team Leadership & Coordination

• Coordinate and guide the data engineering function with support from the CIO
• Provide technical direction, mentorship, and oversight to the data team
• Align data initiatives with business and executive objectives

Data Architecture & Strategy

• Define and maintain the organisation's data architecture (e.g., lakehouse, warehouse, hybrid models)
• Ensure alignment between data engineering, reporting, and business needs
• Drive innovation by identifying and implementing modern data solutions

Cloud & Cost Management

• Manage cloud data platforms, storage, and compute resources
• Monitor and optimise capacity usage (e.g., compute units, storage costs)
• Implement cost-efficient data processing and storage strategies

Data Governance & Quality

• Establish and enforce data governance frameworks, standards, and policies
• Ensure data quality, consistency, and security across all systems
• Implement monitoring and validation processes to maintain data integrity

Database Administration Support

• Assist with database administration tasks, including performance tuning, backups, and maintenance
• Support the stability and reliability of on-premise and cloud database environments

Key Skills & Experience

• Strong experience in data engineering, BI, and data warehousing
• Advanced SQL and experience with modern data platforms (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Azure, SQL Server)
