Job summary

Derivco in Durban is seeking a Data Engineer Level 2 to design, build and maintain modern data platforms and pipelines for analytics.

You will develop scalable ELT workflows using SQL, Python, dbt, AWS and Snowflake, optimize data models, and integrate new data sources. Collaboration with Data Scientists and stakeholders is key to delivering trusted data products.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years in Data Engineering or related field.
• Strong SQL and Python skills demonstrated.
• Hands-on with dbt, Snowflake and AWS technologies.
• Experience with Airflow or similar orchestration tools.
• Understanding of data warehousing and modern data modelling.

What You'll Do

As a Data Engineer Level 2, you'll design, build, and maintain modern data platforms and pipelines that ensure data is reliable, accessible, and ready for analytics.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing scalable ELT pipelines using SQL, Python, dbt, AWS, and Snowflake
• Building and optimising data models and data products
• Integrating new data sources for analytics and reporting
• Implementing data quality, monitoring, and observability solutions
• Supporting production pipelines and platform automation
• Collaborating with Data Scientists, Analytics Engineers, and business stakeholders
• Troubleshooting and resolving data-related issues
• Contributing to engineering best practices and code reviews

What We're Looking For

• 3-5 years' experience in Data Engineering or a related field
• Strong SQL and Python skills
• Hands-on experience with dbt, Snowflake, and AWS
• Experience with Airflow (or similar orchestration tools)
• Understanding of data warehousing and modern data modelling practices
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with large-scale data platforms
• Exposure to cloud migrations and platform modernisation
• Knowledge of data governance, observability, or streaming technologies
• Agile and DevOps experience
