About the Role

Our client, a prominent energy company, is seeking a dedicated Cybersecurity Operations Specialist to join their expanding security team. This role is responsible for monitoring, detecting, and responding to security threats and incidents in real-time, ensuring the continuous protection of critical infrastructure and data. You will work within a Security Operations Center (SOC) environment, utilizing advanced tools and technologies to maintain a strong security posture. This position is structured as a fully remote role, allowing you to contribute effectively from your home office. The role is based within the operational landscape of Mossel Bay, Western Cape .

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor security alerts and events from various sources, including SIEM, IDS/IPS, and firewalls.
• Analyze security incidents, investigate their root causes, and implement timely remediation steps.
• Perform threat hunting to proactively identify potential security breaches or vulnerabilities.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of security playbooks and standard operating procedures.
• Manage and maintain security tools and technologies within the SOC environment.
• Collaborate with incident response teams to manage and resolve security incidents.
• Generate regular reports on security status, incident trends, and operational metrics.
• Stay informed about the latest cyber threats, attack vectors, and mitigation techniques.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2-3 years of experience in a Security Operations Center (SOC) or similar cybersecurity role.
• Hands-on experience with SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk, LogRhythm) and endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions.
• Understanding of common attack vectors, threat landscapes, and incident response methodologies.
• Familiarity with network security concepts and protocols.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative team environment.
• Relevant certifications like CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or GIAC are advantageous.
