Placements24 is seeking an Agricultural Research Scientist specialized in Crop Physiology for a hybrid role in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. You will design and execute experiments to study crop responses to abiotic stresses and work in a state-of-the-art laboratory and field trial environment with collaboration from breeders and environmental scientists.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Crop Physiology or closely related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years post-doctoral research experience in crop physiology.
• Proven publication record in peer‑reviewed journals; strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and conduct experiments to study crop physiological responses to abiotic stresses (drought, heat, salinity).
• Investigate plant-water relations, photosynthesis, and nutrient uptake mechanisms.
• Develop and test new crop varieties with improved physiological traits for enhanced stress tolerance and yield.
• Utilize advanced analytical techniques and instrumentation for physiological measurements.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data, preparing detailed research reports and publications.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including breeders, agronomists, and environmental scientists.
