Job summary

EdUpStairs is recruiting a Security Officer for the Kwazulu-Natal Local Division – Durban. The role focuses on access control, visitor management, and safeguarding premises security using CCTV and alarm systems.

The ideal candidate holds Grade 10 or equivalent, a PSIRA Grade C certificate, and at least one year in security. A valid driver’s license is advantageous, with knowledge of related legislation and strong interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

• Grade 10 or equivalent as recognised by SAQA.
• Basic Security Officer’s course with a valid PSIRA Grade C certificate.
• Minimum of one year experience in security; valid driver’s license an advantage.
• Knowledge of Access to Public Premises and Vehicle Act and related security legislation.
• Interpersonal, client service, listening, problem solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform access control and verify visitors’ appointments and service needs.
• Receive visitors, contact employees, and refer to appropriate service points.
• Operate admission control registers and issue documents as required.
• Use walk-through metal detectors and CCTV to monitor security.
• Report security breaches, non-compliance and incidents to supervisor.
• patrol building, safeguard assets, and ensure doors, equipment and documents stay secure.
