Job summary

Premier FMCG (Pty) Ltd seeks a Fleet Manager to lead a team ensuring roadworthy, clean bakery trucks and on-time loading for deliveries. You will drive OTIF performance, control fleet costs, and coordinate maintenance with the bakery distribution team.

Applicants should have a diesel mechanic qualification, 3–5 years in transport leadership, and a logistics-related diploma. A strong emphasis on safety and supplier management is required.

Qualifications

• Matric or equivalent is essential.
• Diesel mechanic qualification for commercial vehicles is essential.
• Diploma in logistics or similar is desirable.
• Transport controller/fleet manager experience 3–5 years is essential.
• Supervisory experience 3–5 years is essential.

Responsibilities

• Ensure roadworthiness and cleanliness of bakery trucks and on-time loading for deliveries.
• Support OTIF deliveries by maintaining the required number of clean, roadworthy trucks.
• Monitor fleet expenses and take timely actions to minimise costs per kilometre.
• Oversee preventative maintenance and certificates of fitness for each vehicle.
• Recruit, train, coach and supervise the transport team to Premier Way.
• Mitigate theft and protect fleet assets via vehicle monitoring systems.

Job Purpose

To manage team of employees responsible to ensure the roadworthiness and cleanliness of bakery trucks and that they are ready on time for it to be loaded in time for deliveries to leave as per agreed schedules.

Key Responsibilities

The core functions define the key areas of responsibility for this role, reflecting the accountabilities and expected outputs outlined in the competency-based profile. These are the primary activities through which the role delivers value to the business.

• Ensure legal compliance and support OTIF deliveries by ensuring appropriate number of clean and roadworthy trucks per route according to the hygiene (FSSC 22000), AARTO SOP's and RACI matrix requirements for the same.
• To ensure cost effective bakery deliveries through detailed fleet related expense tracking and monitoring, ensuring timely action of gaps identified in order to minimise cents per kilometre.
• To ensure roadworthy vehicles through the management of preventative maintenance and ensuring annual "certificate of fitness" per truck on time and in full prior to expiry dates for the same in collaboration with corporate bakery distribution team.
• To ensure a high performing transport team through the recruitment, training, coaching and supervision of the team responsible to clean and maintain trucks in line with Premier Way.
• To prevent theft, protect our fleet assets and support cost effective deliveries through ensuring fitment of trucks with vehicle monitoring systems by the preferred suppliers.
• Minimise brand related risk caused by accidents and incidents.

Experience and Qualifications

To perform effectively in this role, the following minimum qualifications and work experience are required:

• Matric or Equivalent – Essential
• Qualified Diesel Mechanic –Commercial Vehicles Essential
• Diploma in logistics or similar- Desirable
• Transport controller/ Fleet manager role 3-5 Years (Essential)
• Supervisory Experience - 3-5 Years (Essential)
