Job summary

FUCHS PETROLUB SE in Isando (Johannesburg) invites applications for a Control Room Operator. You will monitor blending processes from the control room, execute the production plan, and ensure daily targets are met.

The role requires an N6 or National Diploma in Chemical/Operations/Mechanical, 2+ years in manufacturing, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and SAP. Shift work and good English communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Two years or more in blending, processing, chemical, lubricant, or similar manufacturing environment.
• Good written and verbal communication in English.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor blending equipment and processes from the control room.
• Execute the production plan and achieve daily and shift targets.
• Monitor all stages of blending: dosing, heating, cooling, mixing, transferring.
• Verify job cards match product formulations on SCADA.
• Track system messages, stoppages, oil levels, pressures, and processing conditions.
• Coordinate raw material orders and request base oils; arrange lab samples.
• Ensure vessels and tanks are ready before starts or transfers.
• Capture production data, complete work orders, reconcile downtime, and prepare shift reports.
• Investigate deviations, incidents, accidents, breakdowns, and processing challenges.
• Work with Maintenance to identify root causes and corrective actions.
• Implement preventative measures to minimise loss and contamination.
• Operate weighbridge and log vehicle, customer, supplier, material, and tonnage data.

Control Room Operator

Your areas of responsibility:

• Operate and monitor blending equipment and processes from the control room.
• Execute the production plan and ensure that daily and shift production targets are achieved.
• Monitor all stages of the blending process, including dosing, heating, cooling, mixing, and transferring.
• Verify that job cards correspond with the correct product formulations on the SCADA system.
• Monitor system error messages, equipment stoppages, oil levels, pressures, load-cell quantities, and processing conditions.
• Coordinate the ordering of raw materials, request base oils from the tank farm, and arrange laboratory samples.
• Ensure mixing vessels and finished-product tanks are suitable and available before blends are started or transferred.
• Capture production and quality information accurately, complete work orders, reconcile downtime, and prepare shift reports.
• Investigate and report deviations, incidents, accidents, breakdowns, and processing challenges.
• Work with Maintenance and Production Management to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Implement preventative measures to minimise loss, spillage, contamination, and production delays.
• Operate the weighbridge and accurately capture vehicle, customer, supplier, material and tonnage information for incoming and outgoing loads.
• Provide operational instructions to Blenders and support Operators, Learners, and Interns when required.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance, quality, and housekeeping.

Qualifications and Skills we are looking for:

• N6 or National Diploma (Chemical /Operations/ Mechanical) or equivalent formal qualification.
• At least two years of experience in a blending, processing, chemical, lubricant, or similar manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft office application and SAP.
• Ability to work shifts and respond to urgent production requirements.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
