Job summary

Shift Pursuit is seeking an experienced Construction Health & Safety Officer for a major bulk water infrastructure project in the Western Cape. This long-term, site-based position spans a 42-month construction period with ownership of the H&S plan and safety files.

Requirements include CHSO registration with SACPCMP, 5+ years on large civil projects, strong OHS Act knowledge, and relevant medical and height access certifications; Afrikaans and English fluency are required.

Qualifications

• SACPCMP registration as a Construction Health & Safety Officer (CHSO).
• 5+ years of experience on major civil or bulk water infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of Legal Liability, Construction Regulations and the OHS Act.
• Experience in incident investigations, HIRA and Fall Protection.
• Valid Annexure 3 medical with working-at-heights clearance.
• Code 08 driver’s licence and own transport.
• Fluent in Afrikaans and English.
• Advantageous: Eskom ORHVS Responsible Person and/or SAECC Electrical Safety Officer certification.

Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of the site’s Health & Safety Plan and safety file.
• Compile risk assessments, method statements and permit-to-work systems.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits and ensure close-out of non-conformances.
• Investigate incidents and manage Section 24 reporting requirements.
• Conduct site inductions and weekly toolbox talks.
• Maintain statutory registers and legal appointments.
• Manage subcontractor safety files and conduct monthly compliance audits.
• Prepare monthly H&S reports for management, the H&S Committee and Client’s Safety Agent.
