Placements24 is seeking a dynamic Community Engagement Officer to foster positive relationships between mining operations near East London and local communities. The role focuses on building trust, addressing concerns, and supporting social development initiatives to ensure responsible mining practices.

The candidate will liaise with community leaders, government officials, and stakeholders, facilitating dialogues, and integrating feedback into project planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement community engagement strategies and plans for mining projects.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, local government officials, and various stakeholder groups.
• Facilitate community meetings, consultations, and workshops to gather feedback and address concerns.
• Communicate project updates, impacts, and benefits to the community in a clear and transparent manner.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Communications, Development Studies, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in community relations, stakeholder engagement, or social development, preferably in the mining or infrastructure sector.
• Proven ability to build rapport and trust with diverse community groups.
• Strong understanding of social impact assessment and community development principles.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in English and at least one local isiXhosa dialect is highly desirable.
