About the Role Our client, a dynamic and growing architectural firm with a strong presence in commercial design, is seeking a talented Commercial Architect to join their team in East London, Eastern Cape . This role is central to designing and delivering innovative and functional commercial spaces, including office buildings, retail centers, and mixed-use developments. You will be responsible for managing projects from the initial design concept through to construction documentation, collaborating closely with clients, engineers, and contractors. The ideal candidate will possess a strong portfolio of commercial projects, excellent design and technical skills, and a thorough understanding of commercial building codes and regulations. You will contribute to the firm's reputation for excellence in commercial architecture within the East London area and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design process for commercial projects, from concept development to construction administration.
• Develop detailed architectural drawings, specifications, and BIM models.
• Engage with clients to define project requirements and provide design solutions.
• Coordinate with structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers to ensure integrated design.
• Prepare and submit planning applications and building permit documents.
• Oversee tender processes and assist in contractor selection.
• Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with design intent.
• Ensure all designs meet relevant building codes, safety standards, and sustainability practices.
• Mentor junior architectural staff and foster a collaborative team environment.

Requirements

• Professional Architect qualification (PrArch) or equivalent.
• A minimum of 6 years of post-qualification experience in architectural practice.
• Proven experience in designing and delivering commercial projects.
• Proficiency in architectural software, including Revit and AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of South African building regulations and commercial construction practices.

• A strong portfolio showcasing successful commercial architectural projects is essential.
• Experience with mixed-use developments is a plus.
