The role requires a technical qualification in mechanical, electrical, or appliance repair, at least 4 years' experience, and proficiency with diagnostic tools.

Qualifications

• Technical qualification in mechanical, electrical or appliance repair.
• Minimum of 4 years' experience as a technician for commercial kitchens.
• Experience with a variety of commercial kitchen brands and models.
• Strong understanding of electrical, gas, and plumbing systems related to appliances.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair commercial cooking equipment such as ovens, ranges, fryers, grills, and microwaves.
• Service refrigeration units including walk-ins, freezers, and reach-ins.
• Repair dishwashing machines and other kitchen support equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and implement effective repairs.
• Read manuals and wiring diagrams to guide service work.
• Work safely and comply with health and safety regulations.
• Respond to service calls promptly and complete work orders accurately.
• Advise clients on maintenance and potential upgrades.
• Keep parts inventory organized and manage the service vehicle.
• Foster positive client relationships through reliable service.

This role is essential for ensuring the optimal functionality and longevity of a wide array of commercial cooking, refrigeration, and dishwashing equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, proven diagnostic skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service. You will be responsible for installations, routine maintenance, and complex repairs for a varied client base throughout the East London metropolitan area and surrounding regions.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair commercial cooking equipment, including ovens, ranges, fryers, grills, and microwaves.
• Service and repair commercial refrigeration units, such as walk-in coolers, freezers, and reach-in refrigerators.
• Perform maintenance and repairs on commercial dishwashing machines and other kitchen support equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, troubleshoot faults, and implement effective repair solutions.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to guide service and repair.
• Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Respond promptly to service calls and complete work orders efficiently and accurately.
• Provide clients with advice on equipment maintenance, proper usage, and potential upgrades.
• Maintain an organized inventory of parts and tools, and ensure service vehicle is well-equipped.
• Foster positive relationships with clients through professional conduct and reliable service.

Requirements

• A technical qualification in mechanical, electrical, or appliance repair.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience as a technician specializing in commercial kitchen appliances.
• Proven experience with a variety of commercial kitchen equipment brands and models.
• Strong understanding of electrical, gas, and plumbing systems related to commercial appliances.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and test equipment.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Must be based in or able to commute regularly to East London, Eastern Cape .
