Job summary

Alstom is seeking a CNC Technician (COMPO) in South Africa to operate and set up CNC milling machines, interpret mechanical drawings, and maintain tooling and equipment. You will perform measurements with precision and ensure products meet strict specifications within a safety-conscious environment.

The role requires CNC milling experience, familiarity with Fanuc programs, and solid math skills. You will work within a team, maintain documentation, and contribute to continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • Matric / Grade 12 is required.
  • CNC/Turning certificate required.
  • Turner machining(red seal) advantageous.
  • Computer literacy expected.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling.
  • UnderstandSpecifications by reading procedures and drawings.
  • Load raw materials and parts onto the machines.
  • Prepare a test run to check outputs meet specifications.
  • Set up machines to start a Machining cycle and select correct tools.
  • Perform 1st level maintenance as per work instructions.
  • Perform 3D Arm and ZEIS measurements on components.
  • Record measurement results in industrial digital tools.

The successful candidates will be responsible for the following:

  • Commit with the Manufacturing targets given by the EPU Manager & Line Manager.
  • Comply with the EHS standards, ethics and compliance rules, the operational targets are based on Quality, Adherence with planning and time spent on the products.
  • In addition, of course, the behaviour is key to ensure a positive mind-set, based on team working and continuous improvement environment.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

NETWORK & LINKS
  • INTERNAL - Line Managers, Warehousing, Testing Technicians (PME), Process and manufacturing Engineering staff, Procurement, Industrial Quality team, other Shift Supervisors, Continuous Improvement, other Testing Operators.
ACCOUNTABILITIES & AUTHORITIES:
  • Prepare and operate all CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling etc.
  • Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading procedures and work instructions, mechanical drawings etc.
  • Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines
  • Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications
  • Setting up machines to start a Machining cycle
  • Selection of the correct tool for the operation
  • Perform 1st level Maintenance as per work instruction.
  • Perform Zeis and 3D arm measurements on components.
ACTIVITIES
  • To use work-order from the workshop network (to follow activity, to input activity data).
  • Set up machines (calibration, cleaning etc.) to start a Machining cycle.
  • Oversee the machines while they execute the tasks and make the necessary changes to produce improved results.
  • Inspect parts with precision and measuring tools.
  • Fix issues that might occur during the shift.
  • Check output to spot any machine-related mistakes or flaws.
  • Perform Level maintenance on the machine.
  • To be an active participant to transversal action in continues improvement process as, APSYS, SWIP, 5S, Team 5 min meeting.
  • Perform dimensional measurement of machined subassemblies or finished ALSTOM products according to well defined criteria using standard physical, mechanical and CMM methods. + 3D Arm and ZEIS.
  • Record measurement results and data in the industrial digital tools as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
MANDATORY:
  • Matric / Grade 12
  • CNC/Turning certificate
  • Turner machining(red seal) Advantage
  • Computer Literate.
EXPERIENCE:
MANDATORY:
  • CNC Milling experience essential
  • Understanding of Fanuc programs
  • Proven experience as CNC operator
  • Skill in operating CNC machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
  • basic understanding of computer programming
  • Mechanical aptitude and good math skills
  • Good communication abilities
  • Disciplined, rigorous, proactive, teamwork member.
